President Trump's Tariff Policies Cause Market Turmoil

On April 4, 2025, President Donald Trump’s aggressive tariff policies sent shockwaves through global financial markets, triggering widespread turmoil and stoking fears of an economic downturn. The administration’s decision to impose sweeping tariffs—ranging from a 10% baseline on all imports to targeted rates as high as 50% on key trading partners like China, Canada, and Mexico—marked a dramatic escalation in Trump’s long-standing pledge to reshape U.S. trade. Jal Shakti Ministry Seeks Rs 2.79 Lakh Crore More Funding for Flagship Water Scheme, Half Approved by Panel

The Jal Shakti Ministry has sought an extra Rs 2.79 lakh crore to fund its flagship water scheme, which is intended to enhance the nation's water supply infrastructure and provide sustainable water management. The ambitious scheme targets the supply of clean drinking water to rural regions, improving irrigation systems, and solving long-term water shortage problems. This amount would be crucial in expanding the scheme and addressing the nation's increasing water demands.
But a parliamentary panel has sanctioned just half the amount asked, releasing Rs 1.39 lakh crore. The move came after the committee considered the viability of the project and the economic considerations. Though the approval is a step in the right direction, the ministry wants to get the entire Rs 2.79 lakh crore to efficiently roll out the scheme in the country, especially in rural and backward areas. The Jal Shakti Ministry is hopeful that more talks will mean more funding in the future. The scheme is also a part of the government's larger plan to end water scarcity, enhance water storage and treatment infrastructure, and provide equal access to water for all citizens. With the nation's growing water scarcity, the proper implementation of this project has been hailed as crucial for economic growth and public health. The ministry is currently proceeding with the acceleration of the implementation process using the already approved funds while still seeking additional funding to cover its total funding requirement.
